MANCHESTER, England (AP) — The Champions League quarterfinals second leg between Manchester City and Real Madrid has gone into extra time after a 1-1 draw in regulation at Etihad Stadium on Wednesday.
The match was tied 4-4 on aggregate after the first leg ended 3-3 in Madrid last week. Neither team could find a decisive goal in the first 90 minutes of the return leg, forcing the match into an additional 30 minutes.
Manchester City, the reigning Premier League champions, were the more dominant team in the first half, but Real Madrid grew into the game after the break. Both teams had chances to win it in regulation, but neither could find the breakthrough.
The extra time period will be a tense affair, with both teams knowing that a goal will send them through to the semifinals.
